Introducing Stevy Liakopoulou! Based in Greece, Stevy is a results-driven SEO expert and currently works remotely as an SEO specialist at Search Magic, a boutique SEO agency in the UK. She made her debut in early 2018 working as a junior digital account manager in a small company as a content creator, but SEO won her heart, so she reinvented herself in 2020 and started her career in the SEO world. Her goal is to teach SEO and perform technical audits on at least 100 websites.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

I used to be a physics teacher, but I’ve always been curious to explore the digital world. I believe that every entrepreneur’s personal success is defined by the success of their customers. Helping your clients reach their ideal customers and building their online presence are two keys to a successful business.

My first job in digital marketing was in 2018 when I was hired to create content and manage the e-shop of a small local business in Athens. Then, I took a course on digital marketing and met SEO for the first time. SEO immediately stole my heart, and so I joined Search Magic agency full-time in 2020!

What is your favourite SEO task?

My favourite task is technical audit because it allows me to really dive into the details of a website and understand how search engines view the content. I love being able to determine what changes need to be made in order for a website to rank better, as well as having an understanding of how different elements can affect rankings. Technical SEO also requires problem-solving skills which is something that I enjoy doing on a daily basis.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

My forever go-to tool is Screaming Frog. It is an incredibly powerful tool that can crawl and audit a website quickly, allowing you to identify potential issues quickly. Screaming Frog has also great features such as being able to export data into multiple formats, which makes it easy to analyze and process the results in different ways. Plus, the user interface is user-friendly, meaning even new users are able to get up and running with the software quickly without needing extensive training or technical knowledge.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Having the ability to analyze no index pages during a technical audit gave me an "AHA" moment. It allowed me to identify and address any issues that could be impacting my website's SEO performance in a negative way. By understanding what content was indexed, I was able to determine whether or not certain pages were unintentionally set up as noindex, and if so, why they were set up this way. This process also enabled me to uncover any duplicate content that could be causing confusion among search engines. Overall, analyzing no index pages during a technical audit provided valuable insight into the website's SEO health and helped me take proactive steps towards optimizing it for better search engine visibility.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

My proudest achievement was during my first year of working in the SEO industry.
I managed to get a +400% increase in organic traffic for a SaaS website, based in Denmark but targeting the USA, emphasizing technical SEO and crawl budget strategies creation of pillar pages, and link building. Also, I managed to build a proper SEO foundation for a medical-related website. I conducted many technical audits and handled the migration to the new website. Since then, the website ranks in 1st position for specific commercial keywords leading to +250% new leads from online booking registration.

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?
  1. Educate yourself – Spend time reading blogs, attending webinars and taking courses to learn about SEO best practices.
  2. Build relationships – Building relationships with other professionals in your field is key to success in any industry: networking events are a great way to meet people who can become valuable contacts over time.
  3. Stay up-to-date with changes in the industry – Keep track of Google’s algorithm updates, new tools and technologies available for SEO, as well as emerging trends in content marketing and link building.
Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

I really admire Kristina Azarenko. She is one of my favourite Tech SEO rockstars and I've learned so many things from her courses!

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

I believe that my inner strength and resilience are what empower me to be the brilliant woman I am today. Life has thrown many obstacles in my way, but with a positive attitude and determination, I have been able to overcome them all. My favourite positivity motto is "You can do anything you set your mind to." This phrase helps remind me of my own potential and serves as a source of encouragement when things seem impossible.
