Welcome to a new WTSInterview edition, where we interview brilliant SEOs in our industry and share their stories with the world! WTS members are welcome to share their story by simply filling out this form; we encourage folks from all walks of life in our industry to do so.

Introducing Adrienne Kmetz! Adrienne is a growth and SEO advisor who has been building high performing teams and creating exceptional content for 19 years.

Adrienne lives on the western slope of Colorado, where you can find her spending her free time offline – sitting in hot springs, hiking with her dogs, and gardening.

How did you get into SEO?

As a young marketer I knew that to reach my goals I'd need to test things and figure out what worked, then double down on those things. SEO was one of those things that just worked.

I can remember the first valuable keyword I ever ranked for, and even though that feels like 84 years ago, I will always be a lifelong student of SEO.

What is your favourite SEO task?

Page improvements. It's like a game to me, to improve rankings by helping our reader and seeing how far up the ladder we can climb. I call it Internet Tetris.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

I am a true believer that most SaaS is for people that can't be bothered to learn Gsheets. So I would say stop buying obscure software and just build on reliability: Google, Atlassian products, and SEMrush.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

The industry is full of opinions, but those opinions rely on the strength of the data that backs them up.

Be confident when you're confident, and don't let people condescend you who claim to know it all. If not, "I don't know but let's test it" is a wonderfully acceptable answer.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

Achieving $1M/mo revenue from organic content alone. Managing the biggest team I've ever managed to get there – 75 people. Then after the Series A, watching top performers thrive and start the next chapter of their careers.

What advice would you give those who are starting out in SEO?

Go live.

Give a shout out to someone in the industry who inspires you, and tell us why

Kelly Waggoner, a trusted, expert editor and EIC with the kindness to match.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant person you are?

Knowing that we only have one life to live.
